3.1 Where to shop

Walk around the historical centre of Kyiv and explore the entire area. In the very heart of the city there is one particular street – Passage – where several top brands are concentrated. Most of them you can also find in the shopping malls.

Shopping malls:

Good shopping malls are:

  • Mandarin Plaza: this shopping mall is located in the city centre, selling mostly designer goods. The basement houses Le Silpo – one of the best groceries in Kyiv. It offers various choices of import products.

Address: 6 Baseyna St., metro Palats Sportu and Ploshcha L’va Tolstogo.

  • Ocean Plaza: the largest shopping and entertainment center in Kyiv. It has about 400 stores of leading international brands, 40 restaurants and cafes, hypermarket "Auchan", "Cinema City" and children's entertainment center "Happylon".

Address: 176 Antonovicha (Gorkogo) str, metro Lybidska.

  • Gulliver: on the vast territory of the shopping center 130 various stores from the first to fourth floors. It also has cinema, food-court and restaurants, bowling, children's play area, fitness and business center.

Address: 1-a Sportyvna Square, metro Palats Sportu.

Less attractive shopping malls are:

  • Globus mall: under Maidan. This mall is located under Maidan.
  • Ukraina mall: located across the square from the Circus. Address: 3 Prospect Peremogy

A labyrinth of shops with a wide variety of products is called Metrograd. This is located underground close to Bessarabsky market and Velyka Vasylkivska st. Especially in the winter it is quite popular.

Groceries:

  • Auchan: French large hypermarket with food and non-food items.

  • Mega market: a hypermarket with several locations in the center selling both food and non-food items.
  • Silpo: supermarket selling mainly food items. They are spread over whole of Kyiv with a flagship store in the center under the Arena Entertainment complex. Great shop with high end products.
  • Good Wine: The most exclusive food/non-food market in the city. They have a lot of exclusive food products and wine at premium prices. http://goodwine.ua/uk
  • Egersund Seafood: This Norwegian fish and seafood supermarket. It only sells fish imported (2x a week) from Norway. The location out of the center: 32, Hryhorenka Ave, metro Poznyaky

Bazaars (rynok)

Ukrainians enjoy shopping at farmer’s markets and open-air bazaars and there are several in Kiev. Most fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat products are produced by the sellers at the market, so their goods are always fresh and very often organic. Best period to visit these markets is in the season (from May till October). Then the prices are fair and the products local. In the off-season most products are imported and sold against inflated prices. Negotiating is required.

The 2 most famous markets/bazaars are:

  • VLADIMIRSKY (VOLODYMRYSKYI) RYNOK - Address: Hor’koho Street, 115, Metro: Palats ‘’Ukraina’’.
  • BESSARABKA (BESSARABSKY) MARKET - Address: Bessarabs’ka Square, 2, Metro: Khreshchatyk, Pl. Lva Tolstoho.

Open market

The largest open market is located on Petrivka. Often very busy but located outside of the center.

Tourist market

The main tourist market is located on Andriivsky Spusk. It starts at the beginning of Volodymyrska street and follows a route down into Podil.

Furniture:

There is no IKEA store in Kyiv but many other furniture stores. There are many furniture stores around Kyiv with very moderate prices. The taste differs a lot. Imported Italian furniture is very expensive.

Good alternatives are:
