2.3 Current situation on the rental market

The impact of the financial crisis followed by the 2nd revolution has taken its toll on the once flourishing rental market. Once the supply of good properties was little and the demand very high. This has all changed. The demand has significantly decreased as many expatriates have left the country. Organizations did replaced expats with local staff.

This trend has had significant impact on the price levels. One can state that the prices have nearly halved for attractive properties while most not renovated (Soviet style) properties simply do not get rented at all.

But there is one exception. Good centrally located apartments with 3 or 4 bedrooms are still in high demand. It is due to 2 reasons:

1) Not many centrally located large apartments were built

2) The expats that stayed in Kyiv were mainly the senior expats with families
