2.2 International schools

If you come to Kyiv with children, choosing a right school might be your first step in relocation process.

Most of expats in Kiev prefer to send their children to one of international schools. Having a curriculum tailored for entering western universities those schools become a number one destination for foreign students and the first choice of their parents. International schools also offer some extra possibilities that most of local schools do not have: such as school transportation and lunch services, extracurricular activities, different sports, clubs and afterschool activities.

There are a few of international schools in Kiev. The most popular are

 Pechersk School International (PSI)

 Kiev International School (KIS)

These schools are attended mainly by children of foreign birth and have only International curriculum programs.

When selecting a school, it is recommended to arrange a school visit when the school is in session. A school administration will guide you through the school campus and provide an application pack. It’s also possible to make an appointment with the Admissions Office to discuss the application process in details.

PSI is an established IB World School offering all three IB programs. The curriculum combines the best educational practices from Europe and North America to prepare students for university. The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of School and Colleges (NEASC). As well as a member of the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA).

About 380 students are attending the school, 71% of them are foreigners.

Location: 5-minute walk from Golosiivska and Demiivska metro stations.

Housing neighborhood: This school is located close to the housing neighborhood calls Golosiivs’kyi. There are no housing compounds where expats reside. All are individual gated houses. The most popular housing neighborhood is in Pechersk District.

 

   Kiev International School

Founded in 1992, the school is part of the Quality Schools International group, as well as a member of Central and Eastern European Schools Association. The school offers a full International Baccalaureate program and also Advanced Placement courses to prepare students for university studies in the US or Canada. The tuition is in English, upper school teachers are all expats.

This school has pupils from 2 to 17 years of age of which about one third are Ukrainians.

Location: Near Sviatoshino metro station. Around 15 min. by car to the city centre.

Housing areas: Nivky housing area together with Sofievskaya and Petropavlovskaya Borschagovka are the main housing areas where people reside with children in this school.

 

   British International School

British International School is a school combining British and Ukrainian curriculum and provides graduates with Ukraine’s state certificate of general secondary education and the Cambridge International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

The school has one campus in Pechersk where instructions start from preschool to 11th grade.

In Nivky there are 2 campuses - secondary school and primary school (36a, Shcherbakova str).

British International School has students from over 30 countries, more than half are Ukrainian and Russian speakers.

   Kiev French School (Lycee Francais Anne de Kiev)

Kiev French School, established in 1994, is the biggest community for French speaking pupils and is the only school in Ukraine recognized by France’s Ministry of Education. Students are also able to follow Ukrainian program to receive Certificate of secondary education licensed by Ukraine’s Ministry of education.

The school has students of over 15 nationalities (40% are French or French-speaking).

Location: city centre, close to Ave Square (Circus area). Closest metro stations – Golden Gate and Universitet.

 

   Kiev German School (Deutsche Schule Kiew)

 Instruction primarily in German (together with teachers from Ukraine for the Ukrainian part of the curriculum)

Deutsche Schule Kiew combines German language studies (with native speakers) and Ukrainian curriculum as an additional option (with Ukrainian teachers).

Graduating students are able to receive Certificate recognized in Germany together with Ukrainian Certificate for secondary education.

This school has pupils from kindergarten age to the 10th grade.
